College Road's VW garage

DO any readers remember the old VW garage on College Road?
Karl Dawber posted his recollections of the place.
He writes: “I remember the old VW garage on College Road very well. I have lived in Crosby since 1974 and in fact my parents still live there today in Coronation Drive.
“When I was probably about 12 or 13 years old, myself and a friend approached Alex (the owner) one summer’s day in his garage, during the school holidays, asking if he had any jobs that needed doing.
“After showing us around his garage and around his trophies, plus the racing car hoisted up on the wall, he set us both to work washing and polishing the VW cars and vans in his workshop.
“We did such a good job that it beacme a fairly regular thing with Alex supplying us with quantities of 'turtle-wax' polish.
“My friend and I promptly went into business and began washing as many cars as we could do in the local area throughout that summer holiday. I would love to know whatever happened to the old racing cars.�
