CAN you put a date to this picture?

The black and white image shows residents of Caradoc Road, in Seaforth.

The picture was handed to Memories by Seaforth resident Reggie Scriven.

He received the picture from a friend and former Crosby resident who has since emigrated to Australia and is keen to be able to date the black and white snap.

Cartoon postcards

Posted by Crosby Herald newsdesk on July 23, 2007 12:34 PM

These historic postcards show comic scenes of Crosby.

The novelty items were given to Memories by former auctioneer and Crosby resident Billy McMahon.

The first, entitled In High Spirits at Crosby, was created by Just William illustrator Thomas Henry in 1926.

It shows two youngsters frolicking on Crosby beach disturbing a man sitting in a deckchair trying to read a newspaper.

The postcard also contains a special feature where the middle can be lifted revealing eight black and white scenes of the area that can be pulled out.

These include: Crescent Gardens, The Gardens, The Sands and Crosby Road, in Waterloo; Warren Road and the beach in Blundellsands and Moor Lane and Alexandra Gardens in Crosby.

Another postcard, from 1946, is given the title Very Dry at Crosby.

A smartly dressed gentleman is shown entering The Mariner’s Inn while a lady writes letters by the seafront.

A seaman is also drawn in the background watching a boat coming in.

It also has the pull-out images under the flap which include Ince Woods and the Old Mill and Moor Lane in Crosby.

Coastguard cottages

Posted by Crosby Herald newsdesk on July 23, 2007 12:17 PM

MEMORIES readers are being asked if they have any information on Coastguard Cottages.

We have been contacted by Ken Hill who said he spent many of his formative years living with his parents at cottage number five, on Mariners Road, Blundellsands.

The family only left when the demolition of the complex, which included Wyndcliffe and the boathouse, was scheduled in the ‘60s.

Ken is now keen for a trip down memory lane is asking anyone to get in touch who may have information, including photographs, on the cottages.

If you can help Ken, contact him at ken.hill@talktalk.net or post your memories here.

This page contains an archive of all entries posted to Crosby Memories in the July 2007. They are listed from oldest to newest.
